Strike Witches: Hakugin no Tsubasa

version: jp - year: 2010 - developer: cyberfront - publisher: cyberfront - format: xbox 360, dvd - condition: mint - rarity: uncommon

Only released in Japan and region-locked.

Review - Half Forgotten Worlds, half Final Mission but infinitely easier, this little known side-scrolling shooter is based on a manga / anime series of the same name.

Graphically competent and slightly reminiscent of Otomedius in terms of presentation, it gives you control of three anime ladies who have different powers / weapons and who can also be freely hot-swapped to better suit the action on screen.

Shooting around effortlessy in 360 degrees with one analogue stick while aiming with the other is really fun and intuitive, and will make you feel super powerful.

Simple yet original concept coupled with pleasant audio-visuals but atrociously long dialogues after each level may bring to mind stuff like Super Dimension Fortress Macross for Saturn.

Bottom line: So it’s a cool little shooter but if you can’t stand a bunch of anime chicks screaming in Japanese for several minutes, you’ve been warned ;) 7/10
