Otomedius Excellent was also released in North America but is sadistically region-locked, just like this Jp version.
Graphically Otomedius X is a step forward compared to the prequels Otomedius and Otomedius G
To get to the final level and see the real ending, you'll have to beat the game on hard mode which you could also do blind-folded since you have infinite continues and instant respawn points.
There is even a Belmont character which you can get as a DLC. Kokoro Belmont has Castlevania specific weapons like a whip, the holy cross etc
Review- After the disappointingly low-budget Otomedius-G which marginally used the super expensive Hyper Stick, Otomedius X brings back the scantily clad anime girls in a better-developed side-scrolling shooter with greater production values.
Some fancy 3D effects in the backgrounds and a more inspired level design bring back to life the previous system of collecting weapon cards and unlocking new weapons through repeated playthroughs.
All this is now a lot less boring than before because everything looks and feels better. Also, all menus are now mercifully mostly in English which helps understand a lot better where to go and what to do in terms of options configuration.
Unfortunately, the Hyper Stick is not really used for this sequel, but you can use the touch pad to harass to various degrees the girls in the character select screen by tapping onto their breast etc and see them react with cool animations that otherwise I am not sure you could see.
Now I sure feel less cheated about getting this stick (not really haha), but at least I have to say that it is huge, heavy and feels really awesome when playing arcade games.
Bottom line:Otomedius X is surprisingly better than the first game, so if you feel like giving it a shot, do not think twice about it! 8/10
