Sci-fi and Fantasy meet in Panzer Dragoon's universe

the character design is insired as usual in the series

Review - After the glorious Panzer Dragoon Saga (Azel in Japan), Sega's series is back on XBOX this time around.

Gone are the RPG elements of the previous chapter since we are now dealing with a shooter much like Panzer Dragoon 1&2.

Graphically, Orta is nothing short of breathtaking. The dragons fly convincingly around the screen for the most part even if at the end of the 1st boss encounter, there will be a cut scene where they move around more like spaceships…weird! The backgrounds are incredible, both in terms of variety and quality. Rivers, valleys, hills, waterfalls…everything looks so captivating!

As expected, the music and the sound effects are well done especially the closing song, that sounds a bit like the soundtrack of Ghost in the Shell.

Gameplay is basically identical to Panzer Dragoon 2, with flight and ground sequences and levels that have multiple paths. Holding down the Fire button and moving the target on the enemies will lock your weapon on them. Release the fire button for multiple hits. Also, you'll be able to switch form. Some of the dragons are more powerful but they might not be able to glide for example, so chosing the right dragon for the right situation will be fundamental to go on.

To conclude, Panzer Dragoon Orta is a great audiovisual experience even if it's a brief one.

Bottom line: a nice showcase of the xbox graphical raw power and a nice addition to the series....8/10
