Neural Gear

version: jp - year: 1990 - developer: fill in cafe - publisher: cross media soft - format: x68000, 2 disks - condition: mint - rarity: uncommon

Review - Mouse-controlled Space Harrier clone with scaling and rotating sprites and backgrounds.

This game was exclusively developed for X68000 and is somewhat of a spiritual sequel to Metal Sight. The gameplay twist here is that a timer is basically your health bar and it decreases faster when you get hit and replenishes itself when you take down enemy waves.

Interestingly, Neural Gear only comes on two disks (instead of 5 for Metal Sight) and loading time is fast and painless.

The music supports Midi (MT-32 only) and is generally of decent quality.

Bottom line: All in all this shooter is an interesting experiment, worth a go if you are a proud X68000 owner. 7/10
