Dragon Spirit

version: jp - year: 1989 - developer: dempa - publisher: namco - format: x68000, 2 disks - condition: near mint - rarity: uncommon

No MIDI support here but the soundtrack quality is great anyways

Review - Port of the 1987 Namco coin-op, this X68000 version is basically pixel perfect.

The game can be played as "Old" or "New" version, the New version having a faster dragon and being a little bit easier.

With decent audio visuals and challenging gameplay which requires you to constantly switch between air and ground targets, Dragon Spirit will provide value for money as it will last you a little longer than easier shooters.

Also, with 9 long levels to go through, a maximum of 3 hits before losing a life and an uncompromising checkpoint system (get hit once and you lose your upgrades, lose a continue and you are sent back to the beginning of the stage), Dragon Spirit will require some serious dedication to be completed.

Bottom line: Great port of an old school vertical shooter somewhat reminiscent of Phelios. 7/10
