Review-Cho Aniki Bakuretsu Rantou Hen follows the footprints left by Ai Cho Aniki and pushed the concept even further.
Where Ai Cho Aniki could be considered a hybrid between a fighting game and a shooter, this time around we have to deal with a full-fledged 1 on 1 fighting game, with flying characters (Astra Superstars style).
The theme of the various levels is directly lifted from the earlier games so you will see many familiar levels and faces, redrawn taking advantage of the superior Super Famicom hardware!
Hand-drawn graphics can hardly look better than what you will get here. Huge sprites, amazing animations, great colors, generous parallax scrolling and the list could go on and on. It must be noted that despite the extra music mini-CD included, the music is far from being amazing as it actually isn't as good as in the other games.
Gameplay also feels a bit weird as controlling big flying characters around the screen could sometimes be a bit problematic as collision detection and response time could be tighter.
Despite these flaws, Cho Aniki on Super Famicom is a worthy game, with truly spectacular and inspired graphics and design. It is certainly worth more than a look!
Bottom line: beautifully hand-drawn 2D graphics for a 1 on 1 fighter with crazy characters. 7/10
