The 1st level is just introductory to the
weapon system
Bosses are impressive and
often morph shape several times!
Review-Konami's shooter is probably one of the finest on the machine.
It alternates vertical and sidescrolling levels and presents excellent cosmetics backed up by mighty Mode 7 effects.
Some will argue that as as shooter, it feels excessively slow paced or even boring but in all honesty, Axelay manages to use the Super Famicom strength and weaknesses to deliver an atypical shooter, loaded with memorable moments and bosses.
Bottom line:Very playable SFC-SNES exclusive shooter loaded with special effects. 9/10
