Review - Beautiful 2D RPG by tri-ace.

The in-game artwork is really well done. Portraits of the various characters are amazing in all of their finesse.

The graphics are hand-drawn 2D, reminiscent of those in Princess Crown. At least three layers of parallax scrolling give this RPG some serious depth.

Also, there are some platforming elements scattered across the adventure and it is possible to avoid battles by simply dodging enemies. The exploring sections have some annoying slowdown though.

The game itself is nice, with a competent battle system based on chain combos. The story is good but I feel that it needs some work to patch it all together. (even the A ending does not quiet manage to satisfy) Finally, the English voices are so and so. Sometimes, dialogues can really sound corny!

Bottom line: despite its small flaws, Valkyrie Profile is a solid action-rpg well worth playing. 8/10
