Review - Lucifer Ring is a very obscure 3D side-scrolling fighting game that I only discovered recently. There is almost no information on the internet on it, so I decided to review it and to take some (pretty cheap) shots with my digicam.

The 3D graphics look like an early Playstation 3D game which basically means that you'll get some pixellization, some warped textures and boxy character models. To put it very simply, Lucifer Ring's graphics probably looked slightly above average even back in 1998…Are the graphics horrible? No, but it will take a few minutes to go back to the 1998 mindset and forget about how much modern 3D has improved over what was available only a few years ago!

On the good side, bosses are big and look nice. Also, magic attacks include decent special effects while flashy combos often look satisfying. Magic weapons are also available for you to collect and they consist of swords with different elemental powers which deal a great lot of damage.

The music and sound effects are in the norm, they aren't irritating but they also don't stand out. Gameplay is where Lucifer Ring gets a few points. This game is fun to play as it provides a good amount of diverse situations as enemies are interesting and often require different strategies to be defeated. Also, the rich combo system, the interesting magic attacks and the magic weapons provide you with a wide arsenal with which to deal damage.

The game is also pretty generous with health potions and such so look out for chests scattered around. Some of these will be of difficult access as they will require you to do some platforming (which can be a bit hard to do given the 3D perspective).

Bottom line: All in all Lucifer Ring is a Fantasy-themed 3D Golden-Axe style game with average graphics but fun gameplay. If you are into this kind of games, you might want to track it down also because there aren't many games like it on PSOne. On a side note, this game is fully PS2 compatible.6/10
