Review - Techno-Soleil's side scrolling 2D shooter is a pretty obscure game.

It is comparable to Shooter Space Shot in a way. In particular, there are some hints that the game has been developed by almost amateurish programmers. Why do I say that?

Well, in the English spoken intro for instance, it will be hardly possible to understand what the story is about. It's like hearing somebody from Japan trying to speak English after just 2 hours of English lessons!

Anyway, the game's graphics range from good to not so good. Some levels have some terrible looking effects such as when you defeat the first boss: the screen will start zooming and rotating but the effect is a bit depressing. But somehow, there is a charm to it. Maybe because everything looks so retro and anachronistic?

Be it the cool parallax effects or the rotations and zooming of spites, Gaia Seed tries to impress through the use of Super Famicom-era Mode 7-like effects.

The music is very well done: a peculiar mixture of techno and lyric music which I must admist is very unique and melodic.

Gameplay is decent since you'll have power-ups and some sort of reloading smart bombs at your disposal. But be aware of the fact that this shooter is very easy to finish with the credits supplied even in Hard mode. The reason?

Well, your health bar will keep replenish itself gradually after every hit you take...

Bottom line: despite its many flaws, Gaia Seed is still a very intriguing shooter, different from anything else on Playstation. For traditional shooter fans only. 7/10
