Review-Port of the obscure Sharp X68000 version, this CD includes a pixel perfect port and a rearranged Playstation exclusive version.
Castlevania Chronicle develops in the typical way Castlevania games did before the advent of Symphony of the Night meaning : levels are linear, and there are no RPG elements.
Also, it must be noted that there is a significant difference between the original mode and the rearranged mode. The rearranged mode features a redesigned main sprite (it looks definitely better now) and noticeably, the difficulty of the game has decreased to a great extent. I think that the game is more playable in the rearranged mode as it is more forgiving, meaning that you won't have to go over the same impossible spot over and over.
Finally, the rearranged version includes some very dry intro-outro Computer Graphics sequences that frankly we could have done without.
The US version of Castlevania Chronicle features some extra options absent from the Japanese version such as an Art Gallery with some amazing Ayami Kojima's artwork and a special interview with the producer of the game.
Bottom line: a hell of a package which finally gives easy access to one of the better and rarest Castlevania games. 8/10
