from retro to modern gaming

Viewpoint

version: european - year: 1992 - developer: sammy corp. - publisher: snk - format: neo-geo home system, 74 mbit cartridge - condition: mint - rarity: uncommon

The Neo-Geo cartridge version is the best choice. The excruciating loading time of the CD version is absent and the action is never interrupted. The Playstation version has textured graphics but terrible controls while the Megadrive version is an acceptable port limited by the console's hardware. There is also a rare Marty version that should be pretty good.

bosses won't let you breath a sec

alright folks, I'm outta here

Review - Viewpoint is a beautiful isometric shooter designed only for shooters fanatics who eat, drink and dream about shooters.

For the rest of you mortals, it would be only humiliating to play this game. It took me over a month of punching walls, kicking things around the house, and explosions of blind rage to master this nightmare. I even made a diagram of the end-of-level boss of the 4th stage back in the day to understand his patterns. I still remember his 4 disgusting faces…But the game was really worth it and when I finished it, I felt a fantastic sense of achievement which still echoes to this day.

The last stage is a sight to behold, with a nice parallax effect and...all of the end-of-level bosses you just beat right before!! One thing: why oh why do the Japanese programmers think it is fun to go through the same bosses twice and in a row? Why??

Bottom line: attractive yet deadly, Viewpoint will leave you on your knees if you don't make it through it. 9/10
