Metal Slug 2

version: european - year: 1998 - developer: snk - publisher: snk - format: mvs, 362 mbit cartridge - condition: good - rarity: slight

Review - The series of Metal Slug is a tribute to 2D graphics in an era where 3D is the undisputed master.

Main stream players, the ones that Sony, Microsoft and even Nintendo have been targeting lately are fond of 3D to the point that any 2D attempt has been punished by poor sales.

SNK decided to take a path different from the others. Maybe because of its 3D failures (Hyper Neo 64 anyone?), or maybe to show the world that 2D can still impress.

Metal Slug 2 is really amazing. It is a jungle of intermingled sprites, explosions, animations, weapons and bullets. In what seems to be a very chaotic game resides actually a structured and a solid gaming experience. Bosses at first seem impossible to beat without losing 10 million lives. Don’t lose faith because they are possible to kill sometimes without even dying!. It is a matter of understanding patterns and use them for the best.

Bottom line: One of the best moments in neo-geo gaming. 8,5/10
