The Last Blade

version: jp - year: 1997 - developer: snk - publisher: snk - format: neo-geo cd, cdrom - condition: mint - rarity: uncommon

Review - The Last Blade is an extremely stylish 1- on-1 fighting game set in late medieval / renaissance Japan (if there is such a thing...).

Anyway, the game is reminiscent of the Samurai Shodown saga, as you will be using weapons to slash your opponents to pieces.

The graphics are remarkable, rather elegant and the rendition of a quiet, peaceful world where lonely fighters challenge eachother is definitely well transmitted by the sound effects and the music.

All in all, the Last Blade is one of the best fighting games on Neo-Geo Hardware, and it is fairly easy to find.

A special mention goes for the cover artwork: classy.

Bottom line: an atmospheric fighting game with beautiful hand-drawn 2D graphics and Samurai Shodown-like gameplay. 8,5/10
