Review - Android Assault aka Bari-Arm is a traditional side-scrolling shooter in which you control a spaceship that can morph into a mech when fully powered up.

Its gameplay could be described as a mixture of Spriggan Powered and Override. Don't shoot for a few seconds and your power meter will gradually fill up. Hit the fire button and depending on how much time you waited, your attack will be weaker or stronger (just like in the PCE Hucard vertical shooter Override).

You'll have to learn how to use the weapon system to survive the latter levels, which will often require you to dodge bullets without firing before launching devastating counter attacks.

The visuals in this game are really well done, with plenty of parallax scrolling, varied levels and interesting backgrounds.

In one level, you'll be flying into a city which will stretch for miles underneath you and even upside down over your ship! This kind of gravity-defying architecture is simply gorgeous and a bit reminiscent of the awesome manga BLAME!

The final level seems to come straight out of the anime Akira, with the dark-tones color palette, the futuristic city and those same bikes...

In the end, Android Assault is an excellent shooter which I would recommend to people who want to experience one of the better Genesis / Sega CD 2D shmup!

Bottom line: A great addition to the Sega CD library in pure Pc Engine tradition....8/10
