Mystic Formula

version: jp - year: 1993 - developer: capcom - publisher: capcom - format: pc engine, cdrom- condition: mint, w/o spine - rarity: hard to find

Not all sections are on foot. Here, the game briefly turns into some sort of more traditional shooter.

The last boss looks terrifying but he isn't very hard at all. Actually, I bet he's a nice person :)

The 2nd form is only slightly harder

The End... the World is apparently a safer place now, not counting Nuclear Iran & North Korea, Bin Laden, and climate change of course

Review - Vertical shooter "with people" where you actually have control over the scrolling (it is not forced).

Somewhat comparable to Gain Ground SX, but easier. The fantasy meets sci-fi setting with a bit of anime thrown in the mix works really well and the 2 players mode is really fun.

Voices (all in Japanese) are well done as well while the music truely takes advantage of the CD format.

Cutscenes are also very inspired while I honestly like the fact that you can use means like robots or spaceships to advance through the levels. It adds some serious fire power to the melee!

All in all, Mystic Formula is a great addition to the PCE library, so what are you waiting for, track it down!!

Bottom line: a nice little shmupper in the pc engine catalogue. Worth playing. 7/10
