Shadow of the Beast

version: jp - year: 1992 - developer: capcom - publisher: capcom - format: pc engine, cdrom- condition: good, w/o spine - rarity: common

New cut-scenes and CD quality music are the good points of this pc engine incarnation of Beast.

Review - Let's get this straight. If you have to purchase a version of Shadow of the Beast, go for the Amiga, Marty-FM Towns or Lynx versions. Beast on the Pc Engine is really the shadow of its former self.

The multiple parallax scrolling is basically gone except for maybe 1 tiny insignificant layer. The colors are ok but shades are very abrupt. The ingame sprites look very "console-like" (which is good) but they unfortunately lack finesse.

The remixed music is maybe the only plus along with the extra cinematics.

Bottom line: a playable port of Shadow of the Beast but the audio-visuals have been down-graded and the incredible alien atmosphere is simply gone...6/10
