Early shooter by Konami for the MSX computer

Despite the dated graphics, Knightmare remains fun to play.

Sometimes, bridges will be invisible so you'll have to shoot around to make them appear.

Most of the bosses have the same attack pattern with some slight variations

Review - A real classic of the early period of MSX gaming, Knightmare is a challenging vertical shooter loosely set in ancient Greece.

Graphics were very impressive for the time, although today they look a bit primitive…

It is surprisingly addictive though and despite the jerky scrolling (an unfortunate trademark of many MSX games) , it is still worth a play or two when you feel like jumping back into the prehistory of gaming, Konami style!

Be warned though, the warning on the box clearly states :” For experts only: this is a game adventure of super-high level difficulty!”…and rightly so ;)

Knighmare spawned a few sequels (Maze of Galious 1 & 2 and Shalom) which abandoned the shooting formula and switched to other genres such as platforming and RPG.

Bottom line: early, addictive and tough vertical shooter for the mSX. This one screams old school! 7/10
