A unique vertical shooter for MSX2

A decent vertical shooter based on a manga by Osamu Tezuka known as Phoenix in the west.

Always check the Phoenix statues to get...

...things like these...not sure what they are but they are needed to see the final boss!

All boss fights take place in this same skull room...MSX2 memory constraints?!

The main hero has only one arm...not sure what the story is but it's intriguing...

Review - Similar in concept to Knightmare, Hino Tori is a different vertical scrolling shooter with maze-like levels in which you'll have to travel back and forth between levels to find the missing keys to fight the final boss.

It can count on decent visuals with smooth scrolling and varied levels, but weapons could certainly be more powerful although luckily your character is fast and can jump over enemy fire.

The music is well done and features inspired tunes while the game is very hard especially because of the non-linear nature of gameplay which in all honesty I'm not crazy about...

Still one of the better shooters on MSX2, but not a classic.

Bottom line: a decent vertical shooter, well programmed, but the confusing level layout doesn't help the fun factor. 6,5/10
