Phelios

version: jp - year: 1990 - developer: namco - publisher: namco - format: mega drive, 4 mbit cartridge - condition: mint - rarity: common

Phelios is a scaled-down port of the arcades

Bosses are fairly challenging...

.. .but can all be defeated by unleashing powered up shots R-Type style.

Collect speed ups and options to get done with bosses faster

Die and you lose all your weapons, making progress much harder to achieve...

The last boss has the nasty habit of cornering you. Keep on shooting like a maniac and when he gets too close, circle around him...

As you venture further into the game...

...the princess gets more naked :) Talking about incentives lol

Review - Another early MD shooter, ported from the 1988 arcade board.

This MD port is decent and tries to replicate some of the scaling and rotating effects of the original with mixed results.

Luckily, the game is still fun to play although the difficulty will probably make this appealing to top shmuppers only. The Ancient Greece theme is interesting and slightly reminiscent of Sylphia, while cutscenes are actually different from the arcade game, and include some mild hentai drawing which actually look nice.

A note on the final boss: very hard to defeat and extremely time consuming!

Bottom line: an entertaining yet tough vertical shooter with a nice greek mythology theme....7/10
