Japanese Castlevania Strategy Guides

 

Official Konami Akumajo Game Book. Black & White, it features some very interesting early Castlevania art. Printed in 1986!

Akumajou Dracula Novel. Log Out / Konami - Printed as late as 1994. Features a few interesting b/w sketches but text is all in Japanese.

Ultra rare Akumajo Dracula strategy guide also features interesting early Simon's art, printed in 1986!

Dracula 2 aka Castlevania II: Simon's Quest Strategy Guide. Printed in 1989, very hard to find!
Very rare Castlevania III / Dracula Densetsu pocket guide book, 64 pages with lots of screenshots. Printed in 1989.
Famicom Tsushin Guide Book of Akumajo Dracula (Super Castlevania IV). All color and very detailed. It is somewhat rarer than the official one.

Akumajo Dracula No Subete. Official Konami Guide Book (Super Castlevania IV). Very nice art inside!

Dracula XX Strategy Guide. Features interesting special on the History of the Belmont's Family.Very colorful, hard to find.

224-pages thick Official Konami Symphony of the Night book with many maps and screenshots. Printed in 1997.

Legend of Dracula: Dark Night Prelude strategy guide. Sonia Belmont is so hot...She should show up in more games! Maybe in Dracula XXX?

NTT release. Concerto of Midnight Sun (White Night Concerto) strategy guide . Amazing art, all color and a 4-pages long interview with Castlevania developers IGA and Takeda. Japanese text.
NTT release. Another excellent jp guidebook with plenty of screenshots and wonderful art. Includes folded poster of the cover art and an Interview to the team behind the game. All color, Japanese text.

Very Beautiful official Konami Lament of Innocence guide book with amazing and generous artwork from Ayami Kojima.228 pages of bliss! 2003.
NTT release. Lament of Innocence book. Nice Ayami Kojima art inside but kind of redundant if you own the ltd edition of the game (which already features all of the artwork printed on the mini calendar)

Official Konami Japanese Guide Book of Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow. Very colorful and detailed. Interview to Iga (in Japanese)

Official Portrait of Ruin guide book.164 pages, 2006, Anime-style artwork :(

Dracula X Chronicle oversize guidebook with folded map at back. 120 pages, 2007, nice.
Official Konami Order of Ecclesia guidebook with sexy Shanoa featured all over the place. 160 pages, 2008, a must have!

Castlevania Judgement oversized guidebook with plenty of amazing artwork by Takeshi Obata ("Death Note"). A must have.

 

 

U.S. Castlevania Strategy Guides

 
US official strategy guide of Castlevania 64. It is very well done, with plenty of art lifted directly from the Jap booklet (obviously absent from the US booklet) and a great History of Castlevania Section. Great stuff and cheap!
And here is the crowning jewel of my collection...Hideous unofficial strategy book of Castlevania 64. Prima's effort couldn't be any worse. Blurred screenshots, no art, washed out look and the cover...what is that? It looks like a 5 years old kid messed around with Microsoft Paint and that's the result...

US official Order of Ecclesia guidebook with nice color screenshots, very few quality artwork and Castlevania Judgement 2-pages sneak preview. Printed in 2008.

 

 

 

Promo Items & Related Merchandise

 
Official Konami Castlevania Lament of Innocence promo phonecard that features original Ayami Kojima art (not used elsewhere). Could be obtained by preordering the game from the Japanese store Softmap. Very rare item!
 
These are rare numbered cards which were bundled with some copies of Dracula II for FDS. They represent Simon fighting with the main bosses of the game (Medusa, Death, Dracula etc...)

Some interesting Pics

Akumajo Dracula (the Japanese version of Haunted Castle) is much harder to find than the western release and to this date, it is among the most valuable pcbs I own.

 
These are most of my Dracula / Castlevania games. I say most because when I took the picture, I was so busy trying to take a cool looking shot that I forgot to put some of them in. Well, for now I'll just leave this picture up....
