Mystical

version: pal - year: 1990 - developer: infogrames - publisher: infogrames - format: amiga 500, 1 disk - condition: mint - rarity: uncommon

Review - 2D humorous vertical scrolling shooter in which you control a Buddhist monk. The beefy cartoony sprites are well animated while backgrounds look clean but a bit empty and repetitive.

The music in the introduction is really good although there are only sound-effects in game which is a bit lame.

In mystical, you can toggle weapon or acquire different powers by collecting and drinking potions which have all kinds of unexpected effects. The idea is good but the delay between drinking a potion and being able to fire your spell is sometimes a pain as it leaves you exposed to enemy fire.

Also, the size of the monk you control represents a challenge when trying to dodge multiple bullets on screen, although the fact you have a lifebar will make life a bit easier.

Strangely, there are no end-of-level bosses and to see the ending, you'll need to beat the game twice.

Bottom line: A different cute 'em up worth a go. 7/10
