Review-Groundbreaking visuals replete with nicely detailed alien backgrounds and sprites, super smooth parallax scrolling, nice use of the C64 color palette, fast enemy bullets, this game looks astounding!
I discovered it only recently as I didn't know anything about it before. So what is the catch?!
Well, the difficulty curve is...well there is no curve, it is just a straight vertical line!
IO (short for 'Into Oblivion'?) spaceship is chronically underpowered while enemy bullets and waves come in and out of the screen insanely fast, which can lead to only one outcome: crude pattern memorization.
Bottom line: Despite its nerve-wrecking difficulty, IO is one of the best shooters for the C64, and pushes the hardware like maybe no other game on Commodore's machine. 9/10
