Review - Metamoqester is a pretty obscure fighting game developed by Banpresto. Like somebody fittingly said in a forum, it seems like “Someone dropped the name for this game in the blender!”

Despite the strange name, Metamoqester has among the best 2D graphics I can think of. The graphical style is a happy mix between Capcom's most stylish CPS II games and SNK most inspired graphical works such as Samurai Spirits / Shodown. Sprites are huge and when I say huge I mean humongous! They are flawlessly animated with tons of frames. The backgrounds are varied, colorful and are sprinkled with nice touches here and there. The music is also very fitting and pleasant to listen to.

Gameplay is solid since collision detection works perfectly while special moves are spectacular and work much like in any game of this kind and are normally easy to pull off. Fights can feel a bit chaotic (like in Capcom's vs series) and it should be noted that the huge beasts you face will often use cheap moves and just pound you over and over with the same devastating punch or kick. This game is probably meant to be played in 2 players cooperative mode since when playing alone, it can become pretty frustrating and hard! There are only 5 stages to be taken care of and only 3 regular characters to pick from but the difficulty level is pretty high so you'll have to sweat a bit in order to see the ending sequence (which by the way features excellent manga-style cut-scenes).

To conclude, Metamoqester is a beautiful game, conceptually similar to a street fighter 2 clone but with a twist: an interesting 2 players co-op mode.

Bottom line: An interesting 2d fighting game with nicely characterized graphics. 8/10
